PERMACULTURE AND DESIGN FOR LIVING

I have to admit living for such a long time in Australia kept me insular in some ways to the outside world...... but coming from rural australia i was inculcated with a belief in Permaculture and was most surprised it was NOT as widespread an idea as i had expected. One lives and learns...... I have always grown things vegetable gardens, herb gardens rose gardens, hay bale gardens school gardens kitchen gardens etc........ Young children LOVE to grow things and have an innate curiosity that can be challenged sufficiently to maintain a positive attitude ....It must be spring and with the 10 acres at our disposal now the time comes for a plan of action .... a 5 year plan and time to learn and grow and increase our families sustainability.

What is Permaculture?

Permaculture (permanent agriculture) is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. Without permanent agriculture there is no possibility of a stable social order.
Permaculture design is a system of assembling conceptual, material, and strategic components in a pattern which functions to benefit life in all its forms.
The philosophy behind permaculture is one of working with, rather than against, nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless action; of looking at systems in all their functions, rather than asking only one yield of them; and allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolutions.
