Rubbish Removal in Sempronius

Now we are working on rubbish removal since we have our big town bulk cleanup day coming up on the 26th which just as luck would have it is also the time we are planting the bare root tree's...so they are converging in time.....which means we have to work hard for the next couple of weeks as the window is small for these jobs to get done. It seems here in the fingerlakes that the penchant for just digging a hole and burying the detrius of modern living is the preferred way to deal with rubbish.....blech so we have quite a clean up job to remove some 3 rubbish dumps from the property. The plastic and metal in particular has to be removed.....the old rotted timber we are burning...... so we are out and about collecting it and sorting it to remove next weekend......

So far we have found 10 old tyres (which of course the county does NOT take) and several mattresses we are unsure WHAT to do with...... the piles of metal we are selling. The most important discovery is that the property used to have an old metal strapped grain silo.......now bulldozed.... what a disaster! between that being demolished and the lost fieldstone barn it makes me wonder what the previous owners were using for brains....

Its a crying shame......

We did find a bit of treasure so far..... some drags for a tractor that look like they can be renovated to actually work....Patrick is convinced of it as the metal is good.

The Drags........
The Metal pile grows......
A corn Shovel head we will reuse and rehandle.......
The end of the wastewood.........
An old horseshoe (bottom view).......

The potatoes are planted just waiting for a bit of rain......

Permaculture in Sempronius

The Orchard of Apple Trees here in the front of the block is being altered and the grass removed to make way for a permaculture based vegetable garden.....
Creating the beginning of the Swales that will make better use of precipitation.....and reduce the need for as much hand watering..... here in the fingerlakes that really only happens in the middle of summer and can be much reduced by mulching and companion planting.

Drawn with Light......

Australian poet Robert Adamson......

.....drawn with light
so that the image perfects itself in our seeing it
Drawn out from the dark

to make bright images of life in our livings
lucidity, clear fire.
